176　condition，conditions，situation，state，surrounding，environment，

circumstances和setting

① condition表示“狀態(tài)，狀況”時(shí)，指人或物所處的狀態(tài)，通常用作不可數(shù)名詞，結(jié)構(gòu)為：

in good condition狀態(tài)良好

in bad/poor condition狀態(tài)差

out of condition狀態(tài)不佳

The condition of her health prevents her from working. 她的健康狀況不容許她工作。

The apples are in good condition. 這些蘋(píng)果無(wú)損壞。

He has been out of condition for two weeks. 他兩周來(lái)健康欠佳。

② condition表示“條件，環(huán)境，情況”時(shí)，常用復(fù)數(shù)，指一般的、籠統(tǒng)的情況。

Their working conditions are improving. 他們的工作條件正在改善。

They are living under favourable social conditions. 他們生活在良好的社會(huì)環(huán)境中。

提示

在on no condition（決不）和on condition+that 從句（表示條件）結(jié)構(gòu)中，condition前不可用不定冠詞，后面也不可加s。

On no condition shall I agree. 我決不會(huì)同意。

He'll lend you the money on condition that you return it on time. 他會(huì)把錢(qián)借給你的，條件是你要按時(shí)歸還。

③ situation指某一定時(shí)間內(nèi)由各種情況造成的“形勢(shì)，處境”。

She found herself in an awkward situation. 她發(fā)現(xiàn)自己處于尷尬的境地。

The two leaders talked over the political situation of the day. 兩位領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人討論了目前的政局。

④ state指人或物所處的狀態(tài)或狀況，常同condition換用；state還可表示心理、思想、感情等狀態(tài)。

He was in a bad state of health. 他的健康狀況不佳。

The room is in a dirty state. 這房間太臟。

He is in a very depressed state. 他情緒抑郁。

What a state this place is！這地方多臟?。╯tate 有時(shí)不需要修飾語(yǔ)）

⑤ surroundings指周?chē)h(huán)境，從人的感受、道德或觀(guān)念出發(fā)。

⑥ environment是生態(tài)環(huán)境或自然，與生存、繁衍、成長(zhǎng)有關(guān)。

⑦ circumstances各種前提條件構(gòu)成的不由人的意愿轉(zhuǎn)移的境遇、環(huán)境。

⑧ setting從事某種活動(dòng)，發(fā)生特定事件的具體背景環(huán)境。

⑨ case（instance，example，fact，matter）例證，事例，事實(shí)。

That's not necessarily the case. 情況未必是那樣的。

The decision is a case in point. 這項(xiàng)決定就是個(gè)例子。
