39　alive，living，live和lively

① alive多用于人，強調(diào)活著，通常作表語，作定語時一般后置。

It's great to be alive. 活著就是好。

My grandfather was alive when the first airplane flew. 第一架飛機上天時我祖父還在世。

Is the snake alive or dead?這條蛇是活的還是死的?

He must be still alive. 他一定還活著。

② living著重指沒有死的狀態(tài)，即現(xiàn)存的人或事物，可作表語或定語。

Biology is the study of living things. 生物學(xué)是研究生物的科學(xué)。

My grandmother is still living at the age of 93. 我祖母93歲高齡依然健在。

No man living could do better. 沒有人能做得更好。

We all look on him as Lei Feng living. 我們都把他看作活雷鋒。

the living表示“活著的人”，與the dead相對。

Is your grandfather still living?你祖父還健在嗎?(本句living不可改用alive，因為alive含有“本有死的可能”之意)

The soldier was found alive in the grass. 在草叢中發(fā)現(xiàn)這個士兵還活著。(說明生死界線)

③ live [la?v]a. 指肉體的出現(xiàn)，而不是相片、畫像;或人死后還在人們心中的“活著”;指物時，表示“通上電的，有生命的，有活力的，實況播送的”。ad. 表示“現(xiàn)場轉(zhuǎn)播(電視、廣播)”。

Don't touch a live wire. 別摸帶電的電線。

There is much live fish in the market every day. 每天都有許多活魚上市。

Some television and radio programs are live. 有些電視和廣播節(jié)目是實況播送的。

The concert will be broadcast live. 這場音樂會將現(xiàn)場直播。

alive和living作比喻用法時在意義上有所不同。

①alive表示“活躍的，熱鬧的”。

The whole square was alive with singing and rejoicing. 整個廣場歌聲嘹亮，喜氣洋洋。

The news of victory kept us alive in excitement. 勝利的消息使我們興奮不已。

②living表示“生動的，逼真的，在活動中”。

That is a living picture. 那幅畫栩栩如生。

④ lively意為“活潑的，熱烈的，充滿生氣的，栩栩如生的”。

Her parents are both lively and attractive individuals. 她的父母都是充滿生氣、富有魅力的人。

The debate was lively. 辯論是熱烈的。

The novel gives a lively description of the people and their customs in the region. 這部小說生動地描寫了那個地區(qū)的風(fēng)俗人情。
