掉進(jìn)兔子洞

Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, "and what is the use of a book," thought Alice, "without pictures or conversation?"

愛(ài)麗絲挨著姐姐坐在河岸邊，她開(kāi)始感到厭煩，討厭這無(wú)事可做的狀態(tài)。她偷偷瞥了瞥姐姐正在看的書(shū)一 兩眼，但是里面既沒(méi)有圖片，也沒(méi)有對(duì)話，"沒(méi)有圖片和對(duì)話的書(shū)有什么用呢？ "愛(ài)麗絲想。

So she was considering in her own mind, whether the pleasure of making a daisy-chain would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the daisies, when suddenly a White Rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her.

于是她在頭腦里尋思，編一個(gè)雛菊花環(huán)的樂(lè)趣是否值得她不怕麻煩地站起身去采摘雛菊呢，突然，一只粉 色眼睛的白兔跑到她跟前。

There was nothing so very remarkable in that; nor did Alice think it so very much out of the way to hear the Rabbit say to itself, "Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!" but when the Rabbit actually took a watch out of its waistcoat pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat pocket, or a watch to take out of it and burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge.

In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.

轉(zhuǎn)眼工夫，愛(ài)麗絲便跟著它跳了下去，從未考慮過(guò)自己究竟怎樣才能再出去。

The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down a very deep well.

兔子洞像隧道一樣直直地向下延伸，一段路后，突然向下傾斜，太突然了，愛(ài)麗絲根本來(lái)不及想到讓自己 停下來(lái)，便發(fā)現(xiàn)她正在順著一個(gè)很深的井往下掉。

Either the well was very deep，or she fell very slowly, for she had plenty of time as she went down to look about her and to wonder what was going to happen next. First, she tried to look down and make out what she was coming to, but it was too dark to see anything; then she looked at the sides of the well, and noticed that they were filled with cupboards and bookshelves; here and there she saw maps and pictures hung upon pegs. She took down a jar from one of the shelves as she passed; it was labelled "ORANGE MARMALADE", but to her great disappointment it was empty: she did not like to drop the jar for fear of killing somebody, so managed to put it into one of the cupboards as she fell past it.

要么是井非常深，要么是她掉得很慢，因?yàn)樗谕碌舻耐瑫r(shí)，還有足夠的時(shí)間去東張西望，去猜測(cè)接下 來(lái)會(huì)發(fā)生的事情。首先，她試著往下看，想弄清她要意到哪里，但井里漆黑一片，什么也看不見(jiàn)；然后， 她看了看井的四周，發(fā)現(xiàn)四面全是櫥柜和書(shū)架；她看見(jiàn)釘子上到處掛著地圖和圖片。她從經(jīng)過(guò)的一個(gè)架子 上拿下一個(gè)瓶子，上面貼著"橘子醬"的標(biāo)簽，但是讓她大失所望的是，瓶子是空的。她不想扔掉瓶子，因 為怕砸死人，所以設(shè)法把它放進(jìn)了下落時(shí)又經(jīng)過(guò)的一個(gè)櫥柜里。

"Well!" thought Alice to herself, "after such a fall as this, I shall think nothing of tumbling down stairs! How brave they'll all think me at home! Why, I wouldn't say anything about it, even if I fell off the top of the house!"

"好呀！ "愛(ài)麗絲心想,"經(jīng)歷過(guò)這樣一次往下掉，我就不會(huì)把從樓梯上滾下去當(dāng)一回事了！家里人都會(huì)覺(jué) 得我是多么勇敢呀！哎呀，這件事我不會(huì)說(shuō)一個(gè)字，即使我從房頂上掉下來(lái)！

" Down, down, down. Would the fall NEVER come to an end! "I wonder how many miles I've fallen by this time?" she said aloud. "I must be getting somewhere near the centre of the earth. Let me see: that would be four thousand miles down, I think-""-yes, that's about the right distance-but then I wonder what Latitude or Longitude I've got to?"

向下，向下，向下掉。難道向下掉永遠(yuǎn)不會(huì)結(jié)束！ "不知道到這個(gè)時(shí)候我已經(jīng)下降了多少英里？ "她大聲 說(shuō)。"我一定正在靠近地球中心的某個(gè)地方。讓我想想：可能掉了四千英里啦，我想, 是的，大概正是這 個(gè)距離. 但是， 那我達(dá)到的緯度和經(jīng)度是多少呢？ "

Presently she began again. "I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth! How funny it'll seem to come out among the people that walk with their heads downward!? The Antipathies, I think-"

不一會(huì)兒她又開(kāi)始說(shuō)，"不知道我會(huì)不會(huì)一直掉下去，穿越地球呢！出來(lái)的時(shí)候，看到身邊的人都頭朝下 倒著走路，那該有多可笑呀！討厭的家伙們，我想--"

"-but I shall have to ask them what the name of the country is, you know. Please, Ma'am, is this New Zealand or Australia?"

"--但是，你們知道，我將不得不詢問(wèn)他們國(guó)家的名字。夫人，請(qǐng)問(wèn)這里是新西蘭，還是澳大利亞呢？ "

"And what an ignorant little girl she'll think of me for asking! No, it'11 never do to ask: perhaps I shall see it written up somewhere."

"我這么問(wèn)，她會(huì)以為我是一個(gè)多么無(wú)知的小女孩呀！不，絕不能提問(wèn)，也許我會(huì)看到國(guó)名在哪兒寫(xiě)著呢 。"

Down, down, down. Finally she came upon a heap of sticks and dry leaves, and the fall was over.

向下，向下，向下掉。最后她掉到了一堆干枝枯葉上，下降結(jié)束了。
