Task 1

Luigi: Hey, Amy. It’s Luigi. What are you doing?

Amy: I’m making a cake.

Luigi: Oh, are you making a chocolate cake? I love chocolate cake.

Amy: Yes, I am. It’s for the school dinner.

Luigi: Oh, no! I forgot about the school dinner! I need to make something, too. What

can I make?

Amy: How about pasta salad? Everyone likes pasta salad.

Luigi: Good idea! Thanks, Amy.

Task 2

Felipe: Hey, Andrea, look at all these after-school activities!

Andrea: Yeah. I’d like to join the volleyball club. I want to exercise and have fun.

Would you like to join the club with me?

Felipe: Gee, I’d like to, but I can’t. I go to the computer club on Tuesdays. How about

the drama club? That sounds like fun, and it meets on Mondays. Would you like to

join?

Andrea: No, I wouldn’t! I don’t like drama. I like sports. Too bad there isn’t a soccer

club.

Felipe: You can start one! Ask your friends. I’m sure they’d like to join.

Andrea: That’s a good idea. Would you like to join?

Felipe: Yes, I would. In fact, I’d like to be the president!

Task 3

Evan: Did you have a good weekend?

Sandy: Yes, I did. I had a great weekend.

Evan: Did you go anywhere?

Sandy: Yes. I went to school on Sunday.

Evan: Did you go to a special class?

Sandy: No, I didn’t. I went to our school festival. I listened to a band and danced, and

I ate a lot of cotton candy . . .

Evan: Oh, no! I can’t believe it! I forgot about the festival. I really wanted to go!

Sandy: That’s too bad. Did you do anything special on Sunday?

Evan: No. I just stayed home all day.

Section II

Task 1

Matilda: Let's make a cake.

Lucy: Yeah, what type of cake?

Matilda: Um, I don't know. Let's look in the recipe book.

Lucy: OK.

Matilda: Mmm, chocolate cake, that looks delicious, but quite rich.

Lucy: My mouth's watering.

Matilda: That looks tasty. Ooh, what about carrot cake?

Lucy: Perfect. What ingredients do we need?

Matilda: Have we got any eggs?

Lucy: How many?

Matilda: Two.

Lucy: Yes, we've got two eggs.

Matilda: Do we have any flour?

Lucy: Yes, we've got some flour.

Matilda: Do we have some sugar?

Lucy: Let's check. Yes, we've got enough sugar. How much?

Matilda: 200 grams.

Lucy: I love sugar.

Matilda: So do I. Oh, what about carrots?

Lucy: We've got three. Will that be enough?

Matilda: Yeah.

Lucy: Let's start baking!

Task 2

Richard: Hey.

Andy: Oh . . . Can I help? You must be the new flat mate?

Richard: Yes, just moving in today, here hold this.

Andy: Moving into the spare room?

Richard: Yes. Do you live here, too?

Andy: Been here for about a year now. Where are you from?

Richard: Canada. Vancouver actually.

Andy: You didn't fly in today, did you?

Richard: Oh, no, no, no. I've lived in London for the past two years. What about you?

Andy: Oh, actually I'm from London, born and bred. Er . . . I'm Andy, by the way. I

didn't catch your name . . .?

Richard: Sorry, Richard. How are you?

Andy: Fine, thanks. Oh . . . There's someone else you ought to meet.

Charlotte!

Charlotte: Coming!

Andy: Have you met Charlotte?

Richard: No, I haven't.

Charlotte: Hello, I forgot you were moving in today.

Richard: A pleasure to meet you, I'm Richard.

Charlotte: Charlotte, the other flat mate. Great to meet you too, Richard.

Andy: Right. We’d better get moving. We're going out for something to eat.

Charlotte: Care to join us?

Andy: Good restaurants in the area.

Richard: That's alright. I think I'll just settle in. I'm a bit tired.

Andy: Right. Well, good to meet you, and, see you later.

Charlotte: Nice to meet you. Don't forget your keys if you go out.

Richard: Er, oh, yeah. Well, it was nice to meet you both, and I'll see you guys later.

Charlotte: Bye.

Andy: Come on, we are going to be late.

Section III

I’ve always loved to travel. I’ve been to the United States and Mexico, Italy,

Greece, and Turkey . . . Japan, Thailand—all over the world. Last year, I bought a

digital camera. Well, I couldn’t take very good pictures at first, but I’ve gotten better.

Now it’s a real hobby! I take my camera everywhere, and I’ve taken hundreds of

pictures. I’ve even taken a few photos of famous people.
