外國人表達(dá)“叫板”居然用“play chicken”，有意思

人家說一句你總是想著各種方式去壓制對(duì)方，

生活中我們會(huì)用“叫板”這個(gè)詞，

那你知道用英文該怎么表達(dá)“叫板”嗎?

跟“叫”啊，“喊”啊可沒什么關(guān)系，

英語中用到了這樣一種說法

在英語中的意思是

to play dangerous games in order to discover who is the bravest

玩危險(xiǎn)的游戲以比試膽量

It comes from mathematical game theory. "Chicken" in this usage means coward (we call people who are cowards "chickens" because chickens run away when people approach).

它來自數(shù)學(xué)博弈論。Chicken在這種用法中指的是懦夫(我們把膽小的人稱為chicken，因?yàn)槿艘豢拷u，雞就會(huì)跑開)。

A game of chicken is any contest with two players where neither one wants to "back down" or let the other win, even though not backing down can be very dangerous.

懦夫游戲指的是在兩名玩家之間進(jìn)行的一個(gè)比賽，比賽中不管是哪一方都不愿意讓步，一旦讓步對(duì)方就會(huì)獲勝，盡管不讓步可能會(huì)非常危險(xiǎn)。

The classic game of chicken takes place when two people drive cars at very high speeds directly towards each other.

經(jīng)典的懦夫游戲就是兩個(gè)人以非?？斓乃俣认?qū)Ψ椒较蜷_車的形式進(jìn)行的。

Obviously, if neither one turns away, there will be a big crash and both will be harmed. The person that turns first is the chicken.

顯然，如果雙方都沒有轉(zhuǎn)向，就會(huì)發(fā)生大碰撞，雙方都將受到傷害。而先轉(zhuǎn)彎的人是雞(懦夫)。

這個(gè)游戲中的玩家雙方都是本著絕不讓步去的

為的就是顯示自己比對(duì)方更有膽量

從而取得勝利

所以現(xiàn)在就會(huì)出現(xiàn)這樣一種用法，

當(dāng)你不服某人的時(shí)候

你就會(huì)和某人play chicken

以顯示自己很厲害

例：

Don't play chicken with him, you'll end up totalling your car.

別跟他叫板，要不然你最后會(huì)毀掉你的車。

When you drive you'd better not play chicken with bigger cars.

當(dāng)你開車的時(shí)候最好別和大車去叫板!
